The FEDERATION of young farmers Ghana is the ultimate body representing clustered association of young farmers and, more broadly, agriculture across Ghana. It is one of Ghanaian foremost and respected advocacy organizations in the identification, development and achievement of policy outcomes - championing issues affecting young farmers and dedicated to the advancement of agriculture.
The FYF GHANA is dedicated to proactively generating greater understanding and better-informed awareness of farming's modern role, contribution and value to the entire community.
FYF GHANA seeks to bring success in its commitment to presenting innovative and forward-looking solutions to the issues affecting youths in agriculture, striving to meet current and emerging challenges, and advancing Ghanaian vital agricultural production base.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
To achieve these aims, the FEDERATION will:
The objects of federation shall be to organize, promote and develop marketing, processing and storage of agricultural, horticultural and forest produce, distribution of agricultural machinery, implements and other inputs, undertake inter-State, import and export trade, wholesale or retail as the case may be and to act and assist for technical advice in agricultural production for the promotion and the working of its members and cooperative marketing, processing and supply societies in Ghana. In furtherance of these objectives, the fyf may undertake one or more of the following activities:
Initiate, foster and maintain a consultative, cooperative and communicative approach to dealing with governments, other farming and farm-related organizations, media, community groups and the public. Act as 'the' principal coordinating and peak advocacy body for young farmers in Ghana with agricultural interests. Encourage and facilitate united positions among member farm groups, as well as all other relevant bodies, to achieve consensus in the policies and issues advanced, Recognize and promote the highest professional standards, backed by innovative farm practices, to ensure greater efficiency and competitiveness for the betterment of youth farming and the Ghanaian community. Stimulate greater awareness of modern farming excellence through improved communication between farmers and the Ghanaian community.
To influence the Ghanaian Government, Parliament and the broader community through national and international representation and advocacy, to achieve a strong, progressive and sustainable farming sector in Ghana.” “To provide collective strength and leadership.”
To champion the cause of Ghanaian Youths in agriculture and embracing the very latest in technologies to deliver the very best products for domestic and, increasingly, international customers.
Ensure adequate linkages and frequent interaction between scientists, extension functionaries and technicians & farmers, in order to prepare an integrated plan to effectuate their linkage, support each other, better understanding and appreciation of their problems, means adopted to sort out problems and plans etc., and to develop a mechanism of feedback;
Ensure capacity building of the ultimate users- the young farmers in terms of physical, financial and skill resources base by way of adequate financial support channelized through credit institutions, private investments and training for skill up gradation.
Facilitate farmers' organization to take lead role on mobilizing support services and resources.
Facilitate private investments for infrastructure development, private institutions have to take lead in the delivery of goods and services to ultimate users (farmers).
Facilitate the processing and marketing activities of the agricultural, livestock, dairy, poultry, silk and allied produce of the farmers with the help of private sector institutions.
To ensure that Ghanaian YOUTHS are provided with food and fiber of the highest quality, while maintaining affordability for consumers. .
To promote the interests of Ghanaian Youth farmers and to proactively interact with members to ensure Ghanaian youths in agriculture continues to be dynamic in meeting the ever-changing needs and expectations of the Ghanaian community.
To strive in achieving acceptance by governments of the major role Ghanaian agriculture plays in the economic, environmental and social fabric of the nation, as well as farmers' commitment to adequate self-regulation and review - thus ensuring the highest standards across all facets of farm practice.
To adopt all measures necessary to emphasize rightful recognition of Ghanaian youths in agriculture as the 'backbone' of the nation and toidentify location specific needs of farming community for farming system based agricultural development;
To set up priorities for sustainable agricultural development with a Farming Systems Approach and draw plans for production based system activities to be undertaken by farmers/ultimate users;
To coordinate, execute plans being made by various NGOs, farmer’ organizations and allied institutions to strengthen research extension-farmers linkages in the country and to promote collaboration and coordination between them.
To facilitate the empowerment of young farmers/producers through assistance for mobilization, organization into associations, cooperatives etc. for their increased participation in planning, marketing, technology dissemination and agro-processing etc.
To facilitate market interventions for value addition to farm produce to attaining the aims and objective of the federation and Create suitable mechanism to ensure location specific adaptive, indigenous knowledge based research.,
Take steps to ensure that problems, constraints and needs to the farming system based agriculture development are identified and diagnosed periodically and draw up plans for an integrated research-extension linkage approach for farming systems based agriculture development.
Forge or develop systematic linkages between national/regional/district institutions of excellence in the field of agriculture and marketing ensuring capacity building of manpower engaged in overall agricultural development and strengthen infrastructural support for the benefit of the farmer/producer.
Receive and expend project funds, maintain revolving accounts, enter into contracts and agreements, receive donations and provide services & deliver goods to beneficiaries and accept grants of money, securities or property of any kind and undertake the management of any endowment, trust funds or donations not inconsistent with the objectives of the FYF, on such terms and conditions as may be fitted with the objectives of the FYF
Create FEDERATION administration, technical, directorates, advisory board, general assembly council and others in the fyf and make appointments thereto in accordance with the rules and regulations of the federation
Make rules and bye-laws for the conduct of the affairs of the FYF, add to amend vary or rescind them from time to time do all such other lawful acts and things either alone or in conjunction with other organizations or persons as the FYF may consider necessary, incidental or conductive to the attainment of the above objectives.
To develop a sustainable agriculture system for guaranteed adequate food production in the foreseeable future and develop an alternative strategy over chemical farming which would be a guideline for the working of biological processes in natural eco-systems
In furtherance of above subjects. FYF GHANA may undertake one or more of the following activities which are indicative but not limited to:-
To undertake & make arrangement for procurement and distribution of agriculture, non-agriculture, horticultural & farm-forest produce, sea foods, dairy and animal products, minerals from the member societies, Govt. /Semi Govt. / and other organizations.
To acquire, establish and run processing & manufacturing units for production of processed & other consumer goods to facilitate the business of THE FEDERATION.
To undertake sorting, grading, standardization, scientific treatment, packing and process of agriculture produce & others.
To make arrangements for marketing of produce of its member societies and farmers, manufacturers, etc.
To carry on the business as producers of, and dealers in, food stuff and food products of every description, whether for human, animal, milk, butter, cream, cheese, oil, fruits, vegetables, beverages, mineral and aerated water;
To enter into contracts and collaboration for purchases, production, manufacture and marketing of raw materials, auxiliary products, packing materials, finished products, by-products and other waste products and also enter into joint marketing and exchange agreements with Cooperative Institutions, Public Sector Undertakings or any other agency in India and abroad
To arrange to manufacture, store, maintain, sell, buy, repair, alter, exchange, let on hire, export, import and deal in all kinds of articles and things which may be required for the purpose of any of the business of FYF or are commonly supplied or dealt in by persons engaged in any such business or which may seem capable of being profitably dealt in connection with any of the business of FYF.
To undertake market research, dissemination of market intelligence and such other activities as are incidental and conducive to the development of the member Cooperatives as well as FYF;
To carry out publicity and propaganda in respect of Cooperative marketing & supply by publication literature, arrangements of demonstration by organizing conference of marketing processing and supply societies conferences;
To make arrangement for marketing of farm-processed produce and consumer goods in its retail stores.
Establish trade connections with manufacturers, their authorized distributors and suppliers/dealers including Government Agencies and Cooperative Organizations and to undertake purchase, sale and supply of agricultural and non-agricultural commodities and also all types of consumer goods through retail stores;
To provide and arrange for the training of employees, members of the FYF as well as member Cooperative Societies to promote and improve the business of FYF;
To provide technical guidance and assistance to member societies and other agencies in grading, packing standardization, bulk buying, storing, display, pricing & other business techniques and also management methods;
To enter into collaboration with Cooperatives or others in Ghana or in foreign countries for machinery and equipment and technical know-how, consultancy, operations marketing of produce;
To promote and organize member Cooperative societies in the field of procurement, processing and marketing of agricultural and non-agricultural produce.
Exports and Imports of agricultural commodities, horticultural products, seeds/saplings, fresh fruits and vegetables, agro-chemical and manufactured non-agricultural items and any other items permitted under the policies and instructions of the Government of India.
To undertake purchase, sale and supply of manufactured and value added items, drugs, medicines, pharmaceutical items and other consumer’s goods in Wholesale and Retail.
To promote horticulture, floriculture, ornamental plants and non-conventional agricultural crops, social forestry & herbal crops and such other ancillary activities at its own or in association with members/ Business Associates.
Adoption, certification of agriculture crop and promotion of organic farming/good agricultures/Animal Husbandry practices by using bio-technology to mitigate the harmful effects of chemical inputs in agriculture field by latest technological inputs and adopting new innovative cultivation methods for production of safe and quality seeds, seedlings and foods at its own or in collaboration with Members / Business Associates.
To set up agriculture farms and institutes by acquiring land / property at its own or in joint venture or taking on lease from Government and others for research in agriculture and providing education and training to Members, other Cooperatives and Farmers.
To introduce drip and line irrigation system, harvesting / storing of rain water for use in agriculture.
To help home-owners, farmers, businesses and other to make a difference in the fight against climate change,
To implement more sustainable solution for electricity such as solar, agri waste based generation, wind mill and hydro, water cleaning and waste management in rural and urban areas.
To provide complete consultancy and turnkey solution for all such implementation.
THE NEED FOR THE FEDERATION
The YOUNG Ghanaian farm leaders recognized the need for a unified position, with 'cohesion of purpose' as the most practical means of enhancing and achieving real gains in the industry -not only to the 'on the ground' benefits for young Ghanaian farmers, but also the need to make positive impact on the nation's economic, environmental and social wellbeing and food security.
The creation of the FYF – is a determination to be an independent authority for young Ghanaian farmers’ rights and prove as a catalyst in shaking policies and politicians, of all persuasions, out of any complacency regarding the needs for sustainable youth farming in Ghana.
The federation is an apolitical organization and seek to assess the policies and actions of Governments and international organizations on merit. This over-riding principle the foundation of the federation.
To send a clear and resonating message to all politicians that the youths in agriculture are 'fed up' and disillusioned with agri-economics mismanagement.
